Start Making Money Online Now, The Affiliate Marketing Way

Affiliate Marketing: The Breakdown

It sounds so intimidating, but it's not. Have you ever bought something and it worked so well you wanted to tell everyone about it? Or are you one of those people that can match products to people, solving their everyday challenges? You all know what a middle man is right? A middleman arranges business deals between two parties or brings the two parties together so that the deal is possible.

Essentially an affiliate marketer is the middleman bringing the right buyer to the right product, or a matchmaker matching a particular product with the people who will want to buy that product the most. The dictionary defines affiliate marketing as a marketing arrangement by which an online retailer pays commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.

So most of the time you make money only when one of your referrals actually buys the product you are referring them to, however there are also merchants that pay per lead, or pay per click. How do you know if one of your referrals completes a sale once they leave your site? Thanks to the internet and the advancement of tracking technology, along with something known as cookies, you are able to track any sales made through your link. With cookies, affiliate marketing is made possible.

Now affiliate marketing is my most recommended method for making money online for a few reasons. First, it is the definition of the the new American dream which is all about passive income, and while you can make money while you sleep with affiliate marketing, it is not an effortless get rich quick scheme. It takes effort and determination, but it is the way 99% of people get their start in making money online.

Affiliate marketing is also something that anyone at any stage in their life can be successful with as long as you take the time to do it right and put the required effort in from the beginning. So if this sounds like something you want to get started with here are 6 simple steps that will get you started.

Step 1:

Find Your Niche

A niche is a place, job, or use for which a person or thing is best fitted. Remember that test the guidance counselor gave in high school to help you decide what to do with your life? Well finding your niche can be compared to taking that test.

It is an extremely important first step and can sometimes be a challenge to really find what works for you. This was something I struggled with myself. For more information on how to find your niche check out this post 3 Ways To Choose A Niche For Affiliate Marketing by fellow blogger Alexander Cordova from Leaving Work Behind.

Step 2:

Determine The Demand

Now that you have decided on the perfect niche, it's time to determine the demand for that niche and how likely it is likely to stay in demand over time. When it comes to determining the demand of your chosen niche, consistency is a key factor you are looking for. Using Google Trends will help you easily identify whether or not your chosen niche has enough demand over time for you to be successful in affiliate marketing.

If there is not enough consistent demand for your desired niche you will need to go back and try to find another one that works for you. I can not stress enough how important these first two steps are. If you get these steps right, you are well on your way to becoming a successful affiliate marketer.

Step 3:

Analyze Your Competition

Now you've found your niche and determined that there is enough demand for you to proceed. What's next? Find out how much competition you are up against. Obviously you're ideal scenario here would be promoting a product that is in high demand with very little competition, but the reality is those products are few and far between. Sticking as close to that ideal scenario as possible is your goal.

In order to understand your competition I recommend checking on Click bank, which is a leading affiliate program. Here you will find they offers stats under each product in their marketplace. In the stats look for the gravity score which is a number from 1-100. The gravity score determines how in demand a product is so the higher the score, the more in demand the product is, and therefore the easier it will be to sell.

If the products from your niche can't be found on click bank there are other tools such as SEM rush which offers a free trial, ubersuggest, Moz pro and more that can help you determine how much competition there is for your products. Remember too much competition for a product with little demand will get you nowhere in affiliate marketing. Finding products to promote in a high demand niche that has the lowest competition is what you're ultimately looking for. Combining and analyzing data from multiple tools will give you the best insight.

Step 4:

Program Picking 101

Stick with me we're just about to get to the fun part. You've picked your niche, and you've done all your homework. You probably have a pretty good idea of what type of products you are going to promote.

The next step is to pick a program that offers the products that go with your niche. Find a program that will work for you. Find out what kind of commissions you can make, and what type of support they offer. Most importantly, find out what merchants they offer and decide whether or not they will be a good fit for you to work with.

There are numerous affiliate programs out there. Some that I highly recommend for beginners are Click Bank, Shareasale, and CJ Affiliate as they are the easiest to get started with. Once you have decided which programs to use sign up and start looking for your first product to promote.

Step 5:

The Methods To The Madness

You have now taken the necessary steps, and put the time and effort into preparing the foundation of your affiliate marketing journey. The last step in getting started is to explore the methods you will use to promote your links. There are a variety of ways to promote your links and there is no one size fits all.

I highly recommend you have a website to promote on even though it is not necessary. Some affiliate programs require you to have a website and others don't. In my opinion the added benefits of having a website (more money making opportunities) make this decision a no brainer .

However, if you do not have a website yet you can explore options such as social media, paid advertising, posting in free classifieds or forums as well as you tube. Affiliate marketers are actually doing very well on you tube in 2021. It's the best option to get started at no cost and there are ways to monetize your channel if you choose to to so in the future.

Now hopefully you have a better understanding of what exactly affiliate marketing is and you know enough to get started. Keep in mind that as technology continues to advance and shape our future we need to stay on top of the newest trends and be ready to adapt our strategies as new advances become available.
